Function Introduction

As a decentralized enterprise-level wallet, ChainUp Custody does not store customers’ private keys. If you need to recover the private keys you created in your MPC Workspace, you can download and use ChainUp Custody’s offline private key recovery tool. By using this tool in an offline environment, you can recover the complete private keys of all MPC Workspaces. Once the private key recovery is successful, you can import it into other hardware or software wallets, fully controlling your digital assets.

Operation Procedure

Preparation Stage

  • Only the workspace owner and admin can request to view the recovery phrases of the private key shards.

  • Users can request to view the recovery phrases for the following purposes:

  1. Manually back up private key shards;
  2. Recover the complete workspace private key using an offline private key recovery tool.

Please note that requesting to view the mnemonic phrases requires approval according to the workspace’s policies. Once approved, you will have 24 hours to view the information.

Obtain all recovery phrases for private key shares in the APP

In the Security feature of your APP, select 【Private Key Management】, and obtain the recovery phrases for the private key shares of your MPC Workspace through 【View Recovery Phrase】.

Download and Install the Tool

Download the offline private key recovery tool through official channels. You can download it in two ways:

  1. Custody Web: MPC System - 【Private Key Recovery】
  2. GitHub

Please note, the private key tool currently does not support MacOS 10 systems.

Launch the Tool

Launch the installed private key recovery tool and ensure your device is in an offline state to enhance security.

Enter the recovery phrase

Enter the recovery phrase for the three private key shares of the MPC Workspace you want to recover, and confirm the entered recovery phrase is correct.

Import Workspace Information

Import the workspace information document for the corresponding MPC Workspace. The recovery of the private key may take some time, depending on your private key and the number of wallets you want to export.

Download the Private Key Document

When the private key recovery is successful, the tool will automatically generate a private key document. When downloading the private key document, please ensure you are in a secure offline environment. The private key document contains the complete private key, which can be imported into a standard EOA wallet (please confirm the security of this wallet) for normal use. Please follow the instructions to successfully complete the entire private key recovery process.
